Georgian Culture Minister comments on damaging unique monument in Abkhazia

Yet another monument of cultural heritage of Georgia situated in the occupied region of Abkhazia is facing danger. As reported, the restoration works in Bedia Monastery damaged the unique fresco, which has been completely washed down. It was the only fresco of the first king of the united Georgia Bagrat III that was known for scientists.

As reported, the restoration was carried out by Tik-Tonic Company registered in teh town of Vladimir in Russia. In result of the restoration works, the frescos on the southern wall of the temple were completely washed down.

Courier News of Rustavi 2 TV-channel called the company, which refused the damage to the Georgian monument, was caused by the works carried out by them.

"Except instructions, advises, requests in written form, the international organizations have no other mechanisms, although all this should be done anyway. This does not mean that it would bring no result. We are still doing this and will continue it until the barbarism is stopped. We know where all these are directed to. The final purpose of this is to have the Georgian historical memory completely deleted from the territory of Abkhazia", Georgia`s Minister for Culture and Monument Protection Nikoloz Rurua said commenting the damaging of the monument.
