Georgian President visits mountainous Adjara Region

Locals marked today the traditional Shuamtoba celebration in the village of Beshumi in the mountainous part of Adjara Region in the western part of the country. Thousands of people from different regions arrived in the village to join the celebration.
The traditional celebration opened with a concert, prior to which the Georgian president addressed the people assembled in the center of the settlement.
Mikheil Saakashvili arrived at the rally supporting the National Movement ruling party. The president congratulated the locals as well as the guests on the village`s traditional celebration. In his speech he also spoke about the prospects of Adjara`s development.
The Shuamtoba celebration has been marked for many years.
The president also attended a traditional wedding ceremony in Beshumi and personally congratulated the newly-married couple.
Before arriving in Beshumi, Mikheil Saakashvili met the workers enrolled in the state employment program on the Goderdzei Pass located two hours drive from the popular seaside resort town of Batumi in Adjara. New ropeway and tens of hotels are being constructed in the resort today.
