State Audit Office of Georgia presents report on political finances

09.08.12 18:34

The State Audit Office of Georgia presented today a report on political finances. The report was previously presented to political parties, non-governmental organizations and to the diplomatic corps.

The report includes information on financial statements of all political subjects that filed financial declarations to the State Audit Office in the period of January 1, 2012 –July 25, 2012.

The report gives a detailed analysis of political financing and sources of income; legal and illegal income and expenditures are disaggregated.

As such, the report presents a complete picture of political finances in Georgia.

Transparency of political finance significantly determines the legitimacy of a political system and the public’s trust vis-à-vis the system. By reporting to the public, the State Audit Office aims at promoting the transparency of political finances and raising public awareness, particularly in the pre-election period.
