The Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Palm Sunday today, which always falls on Sunday before Easter Sunday.
Catholicos Patriarch of all Georgia his Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II congratulated the Georgian people on the celebration today. He chanted the liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral and spoke about significance of the holiday.
Ilia II also blessed representatives of the delegation, which is leaving for Jerusalem to bring the holy fire to Georgia for Easrter Sunday.
The feast commemorates an event mentioned by all four Canonical Gospels the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his Passion. Palm Sunday is a Christian moveable feast.
Reportedly, this day commemorates the event, which happened 2,000 years ago, when Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem. He was welcomed with flowers, and children strew his way with palm leaves.
To commemorate the holly celebration people take pals from churches to their homes.
