Georgian wine-making tradition to be granted new status
The documentary shot by Georgian movie director Merab Kokochashvili has been sent to UNESCO today. The film is about the tradition of Georgian wine making in Kvevri - a wine-container made of clay with specific technologies, which is buried in the ground. The film author tells in details about the tradition of making and keeping wine in kvevris.
The film and several dozens of documents obtained by the Ministry of Culture, which refers to the Georgian method of wine-making, will be registered officially in the list of non-material heritage of UNESCO.
International media has also shown great interest in the history of unique clay container, which is intensively being popularized by the Ministry of Culture of Georgia. China`s state television has aired a long reportage about the kvevri. The authors of the story arrived in Sighnaghi town of Georgia to get familiarized with the history of kvevri and Georgian wine-making traditions. They were hosted by selectionist John Wooderman in the `City of Love`.
