CNN`s Eye on Georgia reviews Lazika project and agriculture development

13.06.12 12:02

World media leader CNN continues a week of series on Georgia. The reportages aired by the program Eye on Georgia, this time was about a new project of a new resort city Lazika and the meaning of agriculture for the country.

CNN correspondent Paula Newton had a live stand-up in yesterday`s reportage from Batumi, where she spoke about the potential of the country in the agriculture sector. The journalist said the most of the Georgian citizens are employed in agriculture.

The journalists also spoke about the development of tourism in Adjara seaside region of Georgia, where the climate makes soil fertile, thus this is the best place for agriculture. The journalist also recollected the embargo imposed by Russia on Georgian product in 2006, which closed the major export market for the country, however, 9% of the country`s GDP today lays on agriculture.

Eye on Georgia also emphasized that Georgia is focused on making organic products, which is very rare and expensive in many countries.

The other part of the reportage was dedicated to the description of the Lazika project - a new resort city, which is now waiting for foreign investments. Georgian Minister of Economics Vera Kobalia and the director of the Lazika project Iva Davitaia talked to the CNN correspondent about the prospects of Lazika.

According to CNN, the unemployment index in Georgia currently is 16%, but Lazika project is likely to create about 20,000 new jobs.

The topic of the next story on Georgia in Eye on Georgia will be defense industry.
